Phantom highly commended for ‘Bumper 2 Bumper’ in Business To Arts Awards

Phantom highly commended for ‘Bumper 2 Bumper’ in Business To Arts Awards

Phantom 105.2’s massive outdoor headphone disco, Bumper 2 Bumper, has been highly commended in the ‘Best Sponsorship of an Event’ category of the Allianz Business to Arts awards 2010.  The awards recognise collaboration and creativity in business and arts partnerships.

In 2008, the Dublin Dance Festival wanted to programme participatory events to get people involved with dance, as well as making contemporary dance more inviting to a general audience.  At the same time, Phantom was just over a year old and was engaged in a process of growing its listener base.  The two aims aligned and Bumper 2 Bumper, a free headphone disco was born.  It’s a twist on the traditional ‘headphone disco’ with the music broadcast live over the airwaves by the DJ’s to the audience assembled at the venue. The Bumper 2 Bumper name was inspired by a lyric taken from the legendary Sultans of Ping song “Where’s Me Jumper?” from the early 1990s.

“It’s a unique event in that there are few radio station events where the entire audience turns up with a radio and is tuned in and listening for the duration of the event” said Brian Daly, Marketing Manager for Phantom 1052, “Plus it’s great fun … watching the crowd dance in silence and then singing song choruses in unison!”

Now in its third year, this year’s event took place on May 8th at Meeting House Square in Dublin’s Temple Bar district.  DJs on the night were Jim Carroll and Michelle Doherty who broadcast live across the airwaves from the venue.  Patrons at the venue and listeners at home were able to interact with the DJs via Twitter and SMS.

Phantom celebrates Ten Thousand Downloads of its iPhone App!

Press Release

Dated: May 18th, 2010.  For immediate release.

Phantom celebrates Ten Thousand Downloads of its iPhone App!

Phantom 105.2 is celebrating its 10,000th download of its app from the iTunes store!  The free radio app for the iPhone and iPod devices has been available since late last year.

“Upon reaching this milestone, one of the things that we have been delighted with is the high level of interaction between app users and the station” said Brian Daly, Phantom’s Marketing manager “With the inbuilt contact form and Twitter feed, users are engaging with presenters as they listen”.

Phantom has also released some stats on the usage of the app itself. Although the app has been downloaded and enjoyed by Phantom fans in sixty countries on five continents, 85% of app usage is from users located within the Republic of Ireland.  Average time spent using the app varies from a few minutes up to 45 minutes depending on whether the user is streaming over a mobile network or wi-fi.  Interestingly, almost 2% of users are using their device “as Gaelige”!

“We have a new release of the app planned for the summer” said Daly, “This will provide additional listener enhancements and will also offer sponsorship opportunities for brands.  We believe that it is a unique opportunity for a brand to have a presence in an app on a device that is simply loved by their owners.”

The Phantom 105.2 app was developed by All In Media ('AIM'), a leading developer of mobile and interactive applications for radio stations across the world.  Its key features are live streaming with ‘now playing’ information, Twitter feed and studio contact form.  The app allows background listening meaning that other device functions can be used while listening to the station
