The K9 SessionsPhantom's  I-CON show with Cathal funge (Weds 10pm-Midnight) has teamed up with K9 Studio to bring you brand new full-band sessions.

Each fortnight we will bring you sessions recorded in K9's Blackrock studios especially for I-CON listeners. In this section we'll be posting the latest updates, photos and video from the sessions.  Soon we'll be releasing the K9 Podcast Series featuring an interview and session song.

K9 Studios is a start of the art recording facility located in Deansgrange Business Park in south Co. Dublin.  Visit them at k9studio.com or on MySpace.

K9 Session Download: Funeral Suits - Adventures/Misadventures


the k9 sessionsThis Dublin based three piece have been I-CON favourites since they released their debut EP Oh Dear back in 2008. In the past year the band have played a number of high profile support slots to Franz Ferdinand, The Breeders, Local Natives, Passion Pit, phantom NYE Ball as well as receiving rave reviews for their own headlining gigs. The lads are currently demoing songs for their debut album and have recently recorded with legendary producer Stephen Street. The band recorded a K9 Session for the show in February and "Adventures/Misadventures" is a new song they recorded exclusively for the show.

K9 Session Download: John Shelly & The Creatures - Frost


the k9 sessionsIt’s been a good twelve months for John Shelly and the Creatures. Their song “Long May You Reign” featured in the Discover Northern Ireland advertisement campaign on both Irish and British TV and radio. The lads have also followed in the footsteps of Snow Patrol, Badly Drawn Boy and The Verve by signing a publishing deal with Big Life Music Ltd and they also managed to release their debut album Dinosaur in March. We managed to get them out to Deansgrange for a day in February to record a session for the show and this is one of the tracks from that session..


John Shelly & The Creatures play the Ruby Sessions, College Green on May 25th.

K9 Session Download: pilotlight - Afraid of Heights


the k9 sessionsDubliners Pilotlight, who are now based in London, released their debut album “The Post War Musical” in February. The album was recorded with David Odlum in the famed Black Box Studios in France over a two-week period and the album has been a bit of an I-CON favourite this year. The lads were back in Dublin in February to play a number of gigs to coincide with the release of the album and we managed to grab them and send them out to the K9 Studios for a day of recording with Shane. “Afraid of Heights” is one of three songs they recorded live for us.


Pilotlight play the IMRO Showcase tour in The Sugarclub on April 23rd and in Tower Records on May 20th.

K9 Session Download: Dark Room Notes - Wall Of Waves


the k9 sessionsLong time Phantom favourites Dark Room Notes released their debut album “We Love You Dark Matter” in 2009. The album was selected as the I-CON Album of the Month in April of that year and later made the shortlist for the Choice Music Prize. The band has since signed to the much-respected BBE label who will be giving their debut album a worldwide release this year. Dark Room Notes  recorded their K9 Session in January '10 and the session included two brand songs including this one, Wall of Waves.

Dark Room Notes play in Tower Records on April 17th as part of International Record Store Day

K9 Session Download: Yes Cadets - Fall On Your Sword


k9 sessionsIt’s hard to believe that Yes Cadets only formed in the summer of 2008 but the Belfast based electro rock outfit haven’t wasted any time establishing themselves on the Irish music scene. The four piece released their self titled debut EP last October and the track Canada was immediately play-listed by Phantom.  The gangs K9 Session that they recorded in February '10 included a cover of the 1990’s club classic “The Rhythm of the Night” and this brand new track “Fall on Your Sword”.
