Festival Season kicks off

It's all been about Oxegen for the last  couple of weeks but we are starting to see chinks of what's coming up further afield.

First up, the line up has be revealed for the Sonar festival in Barcelona. Featuring the wonderful Booka Shade, LCD Soundsystem, Hot Chip and 2 Many DJs. From personal experience this is one of the best festivals outside of Ireland and well worth a visit. Tickets, line up and full details here.

Next we have the Body and Soul weekend happening in June in Meath. A new festival to the calender, it is a breakaway weekend from the very successful Body and Soul section from Electic Picnic. !!!, Jape and Four Tet announced today as headliners. Details here.

So where does that leave Electric Picnic? Well line-up will be announced in a few weeks but Gil Scott Heron has already confirmed he'll be there. So not a bad start!

40 minutes waiting for one bus.....

January is always a horrible month and the lack of many tours only ads to the poor selection of options for a night out. Thankfully it's all behind us, and with Beach House/Midlake in the last week, the gigs are starting to pile up!

This Friday night sees a variety of options on the live scene The wonderful Asian Dub Foundation play Tripod with support from ace Dublin band Noise Control. I saw the headline act at Seasessions festival in 2008 and they really took me by surprise making this and excellent option.

But I'll be heading down to the Academy to catch Yeasayer play my album of the year so far; 'Odd Blood'. Sadly, if you're coming to them late, it's long sold out. And at €16 a ticket I'm not surprised!

After Yeasayer it's off to The Good Bits (formally known as Radio City) to catch the late set by Boy 8-Bit. Jim Carroll put me on to him a few months bak and was very surprised to see his name above the door.

It's going to be a good weekeend!

Boy 8-Bit - Baltic Pine

John Caddell is M.I.A.

-John on one of his rare nights out-

I'll be filling for John on Key Cuts tonight from 8pm. Join me for new music from Yesayer, Beach House, Caribou and since it's Wednesday it's Re-Session night where we guide you to free and legal music online! What more could you want?

The Wonders of Twitter!

So I joined Twiiter by accident the other week and have spent a bit of time 'following' various bands and labels in search of up to date news and gossip. And so far it's worked better than expected. Apart from various tweets that seem a bit mundane and pointless, (St. Vincent telling every city she plays in that she loves them and Florence + The Machine letting me know when she's buying curtains!), I've been given the heads up on some great albums and gig updates.
The best so far? Well that goes to Asthmatic Kitty Records (owned by Sufjan Stevens) who sent everyone a link to a couple of few remixed tracks from My Brightest Diamond who has just re-released her 2006 record Sharks teeth in full remix form.
So please download the amazing Son Lux remix of the song 'Pluto's Moon' for free! You won't regret it!
